What is Markverkstad Norr

Markverkstad Norr is a department within the Swedish Armed Forces Technical School (FMTS) that operates in Arvidsjaur, Vidsel, Boden, Luleå, Umeå, and Östersund. We perform maintenance on the Armed Forces' equipment across all branches of defense. This includes maintenance in the form of inspections, repairs, manufacturing, disassembly/scrapping, modifications, operational support, technical adaptations, and material investigations. FMTS delivers services according to customer requirements.

The Markverkstad unit will transition to the Army Staff from January 1, 2026.

Main Responsibilities

As a saddler, you will work with sewing heavier and lighter materials as well as designing and manufacturing the Armed Forces' field equipment such as tents, stretchers, backpacks, and tarpaulins, etc. You will repair, maintain, and carry out reconstruction and modification work. Your tasks will also include dialogue with customers to achieve constructive solutions.

Qualifications

• Education focused on saddlery, upholstery, or sewing, or equivalent work experience assessed as comparable.
• Work experience as an upholsterer, tent repairer, or tarpaulin maker.
• Driver's license (B)

Personal Attributes

You work well independently and can take your own initiatives, as well as having a good ability to work in a team. The role of Saddler can sometimes involve an intense work pace as well as varied tasks, so it is important that you are stress-resistant and a problem solver who can prioritize tasks. Collaboration and flexibility are two key words. You are service-oriented and value good cooperation both with colleagues and customers.

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude towards work, the organization, and who acts according to the Armed Forces' core values.

Meritorious

• Experience working with sewing in leather, tarpaulin, or similar materials.
• Knowledge of the Office suite, primarily Word and Excel.
• Basic vehicle knowledge
